fund for furthering flexible irrigation
Flexible Irrigation Water SupplyIn areas where irrigation is essential for crop production, the effective and responsible management of water resources is critical. Most irrigation projects supply an adequate volume of water except in drought years. However, the usual rigid restrictive supply procedures force wasteful water use, prevent effective use of rainfall, require inconvenient and excessive labor, foment conflicts over water, and may be associated with high water table salinity and drainage problems. A flexible irrigation supply that permits a farmer to manage his land, water, weather and labor resources integral with his total farming operation, is essential to optimizing farming operations and maintaining sustainable irrigated agriculture. A flexible irrigation supply system with a limited rate demand or arranged-demand schedule under the control of the farmer, allows the effective application of water as to frequency, rate and duration.
